Five Hundred and Twenty Eight stainless steel blocks later, Veyko has completed the fabrication of this prominent sculpture designed by the architecture firm LTL Architects. It is to be installed in the newly constructed Mortimer B. Zuckerman Research Center, designed by SOM, at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in NYC. Veyko competed with some of the top fabricators in the nation to earn the privilege to fabricate the sculpture. Our approach to fulfilling the design requirements combined both the use of cutting edge manufacturing technology, as well as the skill of experienced craftsmen. The project was modeled by LTL with Rhinocerous 3D software. Veyko then imported the complex form into Solidworks parametric 3D software to develop manufacturing parameters and patterns for laser processing. The sides of the boxes were manually welded and polished with a satin bead blast finish. Ultimately, close to two miles of weld bead was used to complete the Thirty One foot long wall.
